The 300SE and 300SEL

 

Contrary to belief...

Not all 300's were air-sprung! The early 300SEs produced from 1965 to 1967 actually had coil-spring suspensions, and had a chassis designation of 108.105. However, only 2,737 of these models were actually made! 300 came from the engine's displacement (2996 ccm to be exact), but the engine was replaced with a more durable 2.8L m130, simply keeping the "300" name to designate it as the air-suspension model in the 300SEL.
